Update... and importance of Brethren during Life events.

Some time has elapsed since my last blog post.  But, lots have been happening.

For my Masonic audience... as for any "drama" that was alluded to in previous posts, that seems to be subsiding.  Many of the local Brethren and leadership in my Lodge are actively working to move forward and focus on the health and future of our Lodge, its membership, and the fraternity at large. I respect and admire that about those taking that stance. I'm finding myself more inclined to participate in events, rituals, and even coach a new candidate. I've yet to see any indication that the same can be said of any neighboring Lodges, District, or Grand Lodge Leadership.  But, I'm hopeful and optimistic that they are also moving forward and not actively (whether intentionally, or not) perpetuating any historical problems amongst the craft.

For all my followers, Masonic and otherwise, I just created an article on LinkedIN.  It is a "new to me" journaling effort. Since I only have limited hours to spend on blogging these days, I decided to include a link to that article on this blog.  I know many friends, brothers, and followers that may be going through career milestones and transitions that may benefit from my experiences over the past year.  I had been conditioned as to what my career and working life should be.  I'm learning that it can be MUCH different. I'm also learning that I may still not know "what I want to be when I grow up".  Although a little late for some of these epiphanies, I still welcome the enlightenment.  My health is better, I'm content, and I'm excited for what the next chapter may be.  Feel free to read, comment, and share your own thoughts and experiences, as you see fit.

While I really have ZERO regrets, I do have one thing for the betterment of anyone affected or concerned and more especially the Masonic Fraternity.  This past year had a lot of uncertainty for me in my home life, health, and as you will find in the article... my career.  I'm often asked why participation in the Lodge is waning.  One reason is the experience members have in the Fraternity. I was disappointed that Lodge drama made it difficult to have relationships and discussions with those that I should be able to lean on in a time when it was needed.  Don't be that person going forward and don't allow the culture to become one of being inapproachable.

Another reason for lack of growth is the image of the Lodge in the community. Let me assure everyone, including my non-Masonic friends and followers.  There are many of you that I COULD depend on and I was able to gain much counsel from you. You know who you are and are very much appreciated. Let's not only work on ourselves, our relationships, and where applicable, our Fraternity. But, work also on being an example for the community and for its future leaders (Masonic and non-Masonic, alike).  Be the people you wish you could lean on, when needed.

Enjoy the LinkedIN article.  I'll be back soon with more "Ink of Integrity" and "Modern Morality".

Today's Fraternity, Affects of Masonic Trials, and Resulting Collateral Damage

As many of you reading this may already know, I have been a Mason for many years. Joining the Fraternity was one of my proudest events. I don’t regret any of my Masonic endeavors and have been privileged to serve in many leadership roles over the years. I have learned many useful tools that are beneficial in the business world as well as social engagements. It has helped me learn myself and thereby improve myself in many areas. The tenets on which Masonry is based are morally based foundations on which to build yourselves. I still very much believe in the principles Masonry represents. I intend to continue following the tenets of Masonry and will happily help others that choose the same path. I continue to support MY Lodge as well as the Fraternity and only want to help it reach the potential it has. Disclaimer: This Blog post and all future ones about the fraternity are MY opinion with the intent on improving the organization. It should NOT reflect the opinions of any Masonic jurisdi...

Introduction to Ink of Integrity

This blog, Ink of Integrity , is a companion media source to already existing podcasts (see http://modernmoralitymedia.com ).   Modern Morality was our first endeavor. The original focus for it was to have discussions around morality, how the standards and definitions of morality were formed, have changed, and are currently trending in today's world. It was fun, could be serious at times, and was our novice, first attempt at podcasting and we learned a lot about the production and publication process(es). Feedback from our listeners led us to spin off a more narrowly focused series named Rites and Wrongs . Some of our backgrounds and that of many of our followers include being Freemasons. R&W is an attempt to explore the significance of morality in the Masonic Fraternity (Rites, good intentions) and how it was employed, abused, leveraged, and sanctified by its Brethren (and the potential "Wrongs" in its interpretation). It would be an honor if you chose to subscribe ...

Legacies and Ashlars

Before I mention recent events or future plans, it is contextually important to give some background on my Masonic journey and life leading up to my choice of petitioning. I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s. I lost my mother to cancer when I was six and was estranged from my father by my mother’s family. He served multiple tours in Vietnam and was obviously affected negatively by the experience. This was evident by many of his life choices after returning home. My parents divorced before my mom passed. So, when she did, my grandmother challenged the court and was granted custody of me. An only child being raised by their grandmother makes for an interesting upbringing. Some of you that know me may debate her success in raising me, but I think she did alright or at least the best she could with the likes of me. All joking aside, I had a terrific childhood filled with mostly great memories. But, there was still a void that all young men need, that of a father figure and male role model. ...
